This beach town and the islands nearby are famous for strange rock formations and unspoiled nature.
Krabi has a nice seaside atmosphere with cheap accommodation, tasty Thai/Moslem food and friendly people. Its striking rock formation islands and beautiful beaches made the area a pirate haven in bygone days. Now mainly a stopover for tourists going to outlying islands, the town itself is nice for short visits.
The attractions in Krabi are 100 per cent natural, formed millions of years ago with limestone crags and bizarre coastal scenes that are unique to the province. Ao Nang beach sits right among soaring cliffs, and these towering karst walls only get more dramatic at Railay beach, around the corner. Take an offshore daytrip to the famous Phi Phi Archipelago and the creative hand of nature gets even more stunning. If that isn’t impressive enough then time to multiply things ten-fold in breathtaking Pha Nga Bay. At Hong island, it’s taken to the limit as you enter a hidden a lagoon through a cave tunnel. Even inland at Than Bokkarani Park, the Tiger Temple and Emerald pool, there is more enchantment. And if this is all too exhausting, a beach massage at a quiet Koh Lanta resort is the ultimate tropical escape.
